I’ve been a D&D player for quite some years, starting off with a group of friends some 15 years ago with a AD&D campaign one of them created. Besides still playing with that group on a monthly / bi-weekly basis, I also play with another group, every week for 10 years now. But I’ve DM’ed a couple of times as well. I liked it, but never ‘good’ at it, so never trusted myself to run a full campaign. But lately, I’ve had the feeling I’d like to take another serious swing at it.
Secondly, the title of this blogpost might give it away a bit, ever since I read about it, I loved the Dark Sun setting a lot. I love the grittyness, the difficult choices and the overall feel of it. I’ve been planning to run a Dark Sun campaign for about two years now, and it’s getting more and more serious every day.
I’m going to try and create a series of blogs, detailing certain rules I found / came up with for Dark Sun. This has always been a ‘not quite your average setting’ kind of thing, that’s why (I think) it was cut off from the rest of the D&D multiverse. As there is no D&D 5th edition version of Athas, I’ve been looking around for conversions and combining those to a ruleset that seems balanced and true to the setting.
I’m also using this blog series to flesh out ideas, write them down, re-read them, before deciding to put them in my GMBinder campaign guide. (which I will share here when in a state of shareability :))
First of all, I really need to give kudo’s to DMDave already. Look him up, join his patreon page. I’ve started my journey with his bestiary conversion, and more rules he came up with. Also, google is my friend, and so is reddit. Athas.org should not be forgotten, as they are my main source for lore, etc.
If you’re reading this, and you like specifics parts to be explained in detail, please comment so I have some kind of priority of my blogs.
