After my last post, I tried some more prints in PETG. I tried to create more Fan Shrouds, but not all of them went well. In fact, I started getting clogs again. The print would go fine, then it would clog and stop extruding… It looked like the nozzle was just a bit too close to the bed. and after some 100 layers it would clog, probably slowly adding more filament to the clog, etc.

Disgruntled, I started checking everything, then I spotted a wobble in my Y-axis belt. It’s being held in place by two tiny locknuts that are out of reach for anybody with human-sized hands. I tried a bit with some pliers, and did manage to tighten that a bit, but not really enough. Then it was suggested to reposition my Y-axis motor, so I did. I think I only moved it about a millimeter, but the belt has a far smaller wobble. Not entirely gone, the rest is still due to the locknuts, but better nonetheless!

Secondly, I went back to basic with getting my bed level. I opened M3D’s video on manual bed leveling again, loosened my Z-Stop and started the procedure again. I decided not be nitpicky on the physical actual height, as long as all four corners, and center, are the same height. I have been reading up for some time again and I think it’s easier to get close to target with the physical side, and offset the rest with software. For me, that would be my first time messing with babysteps.

My god, why didn’t I go this route before?? I’m now running my (as it appears to be) 4th propper print of the day. That’s a record I never got since I have this printer.

I did make a small mistake on the adaptors for the spool holder, I didn’t use any supports, and it has a roof part that is now not as strong as it could have been. But then again, it will probably had been a horrible job to pull the supports out. I will do a comparison with a supported version if the differences are big.

Now I’m making the spoolholder arms. As you can see, all in a nice transparant red PETG. If this is going OK, I am building three more and replace my active spool holders. They are great for storing, but have too much restriction on unwinding in my opinion. Perhaps I chose a wrong angle too, I’m not sure. Anyway, main point of this post is probably to be happy that I’m printing again.

Also, I ordered a second printer, the Homers Odysseus RS. Homers is the company formatlly known as Tevo. They had some financial problems I guess, but back at it. I was looking for a Tevo Tarrantula Pro at first, but they are out of stock everywhere. Now I know why.

Hopefully it will come in soon and I will have another machine for single color prints / workhorse. I can’t wait!

Final bit of news, I started a new Instagram account. I’m trying to place projects / finished or rejected prints on there as well.
